Virtualization is rapidly changing the way business IT operates, from small local businesses to multinational corporations. If you are reading this, chances are good that your company is already taking advantage of virtualization’s benefits. Virtualization means that a single underlying piece of hardware, such as a server, runs multiple guest operating systems to create virtual machines, or VMs, with each of them being oblivious to the others. An administrative application, such as VMware, manages the sharing process, allocating hardware resources, memory, and CPU time to each VM as needed. And all applications look at this software construct exactly as if it were a real, physical server — even the VM thinks it’s a real server! Virtualization makes good financial sense. It enables a single server to offer multiple capabilities that otherwise would require separate servers. It includes native high availability features, so you don’t have to use any more complex clustering tools. This ab

Until recently, Manhattan Associates had used a traditional secondary storage solution to manage its large and rapidly expanding data footprint of ~1PB. Designed for traditional workflows, the company’s IT team realized it had become cost prohibitive to add features to their existing environment to support their VM level backups. Like most traditional storage options, the existing solution did not scale-out linearly, and complicated the environment by creating silos. With Cohesity’s scale-out architecture, the team was able to start small and grow their Cohesity environment on the go, yet keep it unified and simple. See how Manhanttan Associates achieved operational efficiency and lowered their TCO by supporting VM data protection, supporting native integration with the public cloud and providing simple converged solution for data protection, target storage and files. If your organization runs VMware vSphere-based cloud infrastructure in your on-premises data center, but you have been reluctant to migrate applications to the cloud for fear of losing some VMware vSphere-based cloud capabilities, VMware Cloud on AWS solves this problem by seamlessly integrating your familiar VMware virtualization and cloud management tools with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Many organizations believe that moving their applications to the cloud makes it necessary to introduce new tools, skills, and processes. This can present a new set of challenges because learning to use new tools, applying new skills, and adapting to new processes can be costly and time-consuming. In this eBook, we dive deeper into how these challenges can hinder hybrid cloud adoption and cover how VMware Cloud on AWS can help your organization overcome these challenges. Join our webinar to learn The benefits of Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS), delivering on-site protection. How automated or

The rise of virtualization as a business tool has dramatically enhanced server and primary storage utilization. By allowing multiple operating systems and applications to run on a single physical server, organizations can significantly lower their hardware costs and take advantage of efficiency and agility improvements as more and more tasks become automated. This also alleviates the pain of fragmented IT ecosystems and incompatible data silos. Protecting these virtualized environments, however, and the ever-growing amount of structured and unstructured data being created, still requires a complex, on-prem secondary storage model that imposes heavy administrative overhead and infrastructure costs. The increasing pressure on IT teams to maintain business continuity and information governance are changing how businesses view infrastructure resiliency and long-term data retention—they are consequently looking to new solutions to ensure immediate availability and complete protection of the

Another must have feature of any modern Availability solution is self-service restore. Self-service restore is essentially a delegation, or granting the task of restoring files within the guest OS to users that have administrative rights. In many organizations, there are users who are responsible for the applications running within the VMs. These application owners are the primary administrators for the files and folders within the VM — so why would they have to go to a backup administrator to simply restore a file? Self-service restore allows these applications owners to log into a portal, search through the content of the backups for their VMs only and perform any necessary restores of those files back to their original or new locations.
