With a growing number of marketing application available, marketing terms are struggling to see differences among them. Meanwhile, IT teams are bogged down with development and maintenance requests to migrate or manage the use of multiple platforms already in use. Choosing a marketing technology partner is a total-revenue-performance decision. Ask questions about integration and scalability. Find partners whose marketing automation is built to scale with your business, and select vendors whose teams provide the critical support and services you'll need along the way.

New digital technology now makes it feasible to integrate process control and SIF within a common automation infrastructure. While this can provide productivity and asset management benefits, if not done correctly, it can also compromise the safety and security of an industrial operation. Cybersecurity and sabotage vulnerability further accentuate the need for securing the safety instrumented system (SIS). Certainly, a common platform approach using similar hardware and software dedicated for control and safety functions, respectively, can provide the potential for cost savings. However, it is widely acknowledged that utilizing separate, independent, and diverse hardware/software for safety and control is the optimal way to protect against potentially catastrophic common cause and systematic design and application errors. Different vendors offer varied degrees of integration and solutions. The question is: how to provide an integrated control and safety solution with advanced functionality and productivity without compromising safety and security? And, where do users draw the line? A third-party (e.g., TÜV) certification of the hardware/software systems to IEC 61508 specifications carries significant advantages, but should this be the only criterion? How does a third-party certificate extend to the plant’s overall assignment of risk reduction credits for all independent protection layers (IPL)? Control system embedded safety logic solvers may actually increase the SIL requirements of the SIF if no credit is allowed for the distributed control system (DCS) as an IPL. Whilst the FSI sector races to implement cutting-edge technologies such as AI, blockchain and automation, there are no mutually agreed upon set of best practices to implement these technologies. As a result, organisations are using their own blend of strategic initiatives and company culture to drive innovation, with varying levels of success. To help, this article features advice from five of the leading experts in the FSI and technology sector today. Several of the most visible tactics to kick-start innovation in FSI organisations include launching innovation or incubation centres, launching hackathons, partnering with or acquiring start-ups, venture investment or simply trying to develop solutions in house. Whilst each of these approaches has potential, there is a risk that organisations fall into the trap of innovation theatre, in other words, failing to effectively integrate cutting edge technology into key business functions.

As networks scale, they become difficult to manage. A different command line interface (CLI) or operating system (OS) is required for every device type in your network, such as routers, switches, and firewalls. Learning a new OS for every device is a complex task for your operations team and can slow them down—not a very efficient way to run a network.
