The focus of SDN is on transforming the network to support applications and meet the expectations of users and businesses that rely on them. Scaling modern networks is challenging due to the explosive growth of compute, network, and application resources-combined with increased mobility of apps migrating to the cloud and users across multiple devices. As an approach to operationalizing the network, SDN enables organizations to achieve greater economies of operational scale through the use of APIs to automate and orchestrate the network, as well as the application services that support applications. Read this whitepaper to learn how applications are driving new requirements for both businesses and networks that require disruptive, radical change.

Digital transformation on the 3rd Platform continues to present unprecedented opportunities and challenges for enterprise networks and the IT professionals who operate them. Indeed, the requirements associated with cloud computing have already reverberated through datacenter networking, with software-defined networking (SDN) arising as an architectural approach that provided the network with the agility and responsiveness that it lacked previously but has come to require. Now, the focus is turning to how the WAN must change to accommodate the requirements of cloud applications and services. Fortunately, technologies such as hybrid WAN and software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) are coming to the rescue, giving enterprise IT the means to allow the WAN to meet these challenges directly.

Network readiness is an important factor in any new IT project at companies both large and small. New applications seem to require more bandwidth than the applications that they replace. These applications can also bring in new users, sometimes by the thousands. In some cases, the network services and/or capacity are not ready for these changes, and the IT rollout suffers. This guide covers the following topics: bandwidth, wireless, firewalls, content filtering, proxy servers, and others.

Mobile applications are providing exciting new business opportunities for service providers and technology companies. Innovative firms are thriving by offering apps in app stores and app markets, by supporting apps with mobile services and infrastructure, and by managing apps through mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM) products. Enterprises are providing mobile apps to their employees and customers through corporate app catalogs. But these business opportunities could be jeopardized by information security issues.

The pressures of speed, efficiency, and cost will push more applications and data outside the trusted network and into a service provider’s clouds, where those benefits can be realized. The growth of cloud services and movement of sensitive data between private and public clouds means that those services will become increasingly valuable as targets of attack. As enterprises cloud-enable their operations, gaps in control, visibility, identity, and security are the most likely paths to data breaches.

Use of cloud computing services continues to grow rapidly as organizations migrate business applications and data to cloud-based software, platform and infrastructure services. Gartner estimates 2017 will see growth of 18% in spending on public cloud services and that cloud adoption will infuence more than 50% of IT spending through 2020. Deloitte Global predicts that by the end of 2022 more than half of all IT spending will go to IT-as-a-service providers. In the 2016 edition of this survey, 56% of the security professionals responding said limitations on access to collect incident response data and evidence for forensic analysis was a key challenge to securing the cloud. Sixty-two percent said they were concerned about unauthorized access by outsiders, and 59% said they worried about access by other cloud tenants. Of the 10% who reported being breached, half blamed stolen credentials or compromised accounts.

More and more financial institutions are partnering with fintechs and leveraging Application Program Interfaces (APIs) to attract new prospects and to delight current consumers through unprecedented Customer Experience (CX). APIs offer a bridge between systems while paving a digital path to a connected financial ecosystem. The institutions that are able to drive this digital transformation successfully, do not think of these capabilities as additional channels and services. Rather, these institutions understand that they must move from a vision of banking as a physical network of branches and ATMs, to a digital platform, comprising core capabilities such as account servicing and the provision of financial products that can be accessed wherever, and whenever, customers wish. Join this webinar and learn how these institutions are building a digital banking platform with APIs. With the exploding adoption of software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications, enterprise IT is fundamentally changing. While on-demand services provide tremendous ROI, they also introduce new challenges that must be overcome to truly capitalize on their potential. Identity management problems such as controlling who is granted access to which applications and data and how to control access to these applications leveraging on premise directories such as Active Directory, have become increasingly important. Single Sign-On and user management solutions that are optimized for the cloud are necessary to help address these challenges. This whitepaper presents the eight biggest identity and access management (IAM) challenges associated with adopting and deploying cloud and SaaS applications, and discusses best practices for addressing each of them.

The introduction of bandwidth-intensive learning applications, including video and peer-to-peer applications in teaching has fundamentally transformed the way teachers teach and students learn. The federal E-rate program has forever changed the technology landscape of school districts and libraries in the United States. Receiving funding is not guaranteed, and following the E-rate process and procedures is critical – especially when thousands, even millions, of dollars are at stake for your district. The rewards that new, education-specific cutting edge education applications deliver to the classroom far outweigh the effort required to participate in the program. This paper briefly examines the promise of new, education-specific applications, the advanced network services that enable them, and the role of the E-rate program.
